The ways in which health care is offered and paid for is changing as never before, and with the advent of the Affordable Care Act, there is a growing need for Nurse Practitioners (NP). For nurses who want to provide culturally-appropriate primary care services for families, the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program (available on-campus and online) is for you. If your experience is in acute care and you want to utilize your expertise in chronic conditions such cardiac, neuro or renal care, for example, you are uniquely suited to manage these conditions for patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings. It is not the setting that determines the scope of practice, but the role in which the NP is functioning. Such an FNP might provide continuity services for all diabetic patients in an agency, whether the patient is in outpatient clinic or in-house for an unrelated procedure.
