LIU Brooklyn offers the Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate (FNP). The 38-credit program is designed to be completed in six semesters (fall, spring, and summer) of part-time study. Registered Nurses who have a Masters in Nursing (not an FNP) are eligible to apply for this program. Graduates of the Advance Certificate FNP program are eligible for a New York State Certificateas a family nurse practitioner and will be eligible for national board certification through the national certifying agencies for advanced practice nursing (American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners).<br><br>Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate program offers nurses who already have earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing, the opportunity to increase their expertise in the area of care for adults in a variety of settings including clinics, hospitals and ambulatory care centers. In New York State, the graduate nurse practitioners are autonomous working in collaboration with a physician but are not supervised by a physician. The nurse practitioner does not require collaboration after successfully completing 3600 clinical hours in practice.
