Health Promotion Specialists and Health Educators work with people in schools and community settings. They promote positive health behaviors by giving presentations, planning and implementing programs, preparing instructional materials, assessing community and individual health needs, teaching and training, coordinating communityschool efforts, health coaching, advocating for healthy policies, leading coalitions, and acting as a resource person. The School Health and Promotion Education curriculum is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Public Health curriculum has been approved through combined review of two professional organizations. Health promotion plays an important role in our lives. It empowers people and communities to manage their health. Health promotion improves the quality of life by supporting healthy environments, promoting healthy lifestyles, and protecting resources that support community health.
