The following criteria apply to students seeking admission to the Master of Research program:
- Possession of an undergraduate degree from a recognised university which has been completed at a superior standard and which demonstrates the applicant’s potential to undertake and complete research-based study at AQF level 9 equivalence.
- In exceptional circumstances, an equivalent academic or professional background that is considered by the Dean of the School to be an appropriate preparation for independent study and research work at Master’s level.
You may be required to demonstrate an ability to understand and communicate in both written and spoken English at a level adequate for the purpose of pursuing the program of study.
IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 overall, with no writing score lower than 6.5 and no other individual band score lower than 6.0; CAE/CPE - 176 overall, with no score lower than 176 in writing and no other band score lower than 169; PTE Academic - 58 overall, with no score lower than 58 in writing and no other band score lower than 50; TOEFL (iBT) - 84 overall, with no score lower than 22 in writing and no other band score lower than 17.

Our Master of Science (Medicine) will expose you to the strong and innovative research culture at The University of Notre Dame Australia. The Master of Science (Medicine) is undertaken by thesis only and is best suited if you prefer a Master’s degree to a PhD but do not require structured research training. If you are a career-focused medical professional, this Master by Research postgraduate research degree is recommended for students who wish to enhance their knowledge, develop their career potential, or anticipate applying for a Professional Doctorate or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the future. The degree comprises a substantial research project culminating in the submission of a thesis or equivalent for independent examination by two external examiners. You will be required to have a minimum of two supervisors who will provide support and academic guidance throughout your degree.
