This qualification reflects the role of a dental technician responsible for construction and repair of dentures and other dental appliances including crowns, bridges, partial dentures, pre- and post-oral and maxillofacial surgical devices, and orthodontic appliances. Dental technicians work in dental laboratories on their own or in small groups, under the prescription of dentists. Although it does not guarantee an employment outcome, completion of this qualification could lead to employment in the dental laboratory as a dental technician. This qualification may provide a pathway to further studies in dental technology or dental prosthetics.
