The BSc Health and Social Care has been designed for students who wish to develop a greater understanding of the health and social care sector and how it operates and is managed within a constantly evolving landscape. You will gain an understanding of different approaches to the organisation and financing of health and social care services and how they relate to wider social and political structures. Drawing on a wide range of insights and research from medicine, sociology, psychology, economics, philosophy and other disciplines, the course adopts a multidisciplinary and evidence-based approach to encourage you to think critically about how factors such as society, the environment and geography affect our experience of health and illness, and of health and social care services. The course combines academic rigour with the development of practical and transferable skills to prepare you for a career within health and social care. As a student on the course you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the history and development of health and social care, both within the UK and internationally. The course will look at key concepts such as health, illness, need, inequality, poverty, identity and diversity, and their relation to health and social care.
