This Midwifery degree covers all aspects of normal midwifery, complicated childbearing, and postnatal care. Youll also study wider issues such as health promotion, public health, law and ethics, and professional issues. Midwifery is a skills-based profession and development of your practical skills is an important part of this midwifery course. As part of your Midwifery training, youll gain experience on clinical placements in a number of local health boards, each lasting several weeks. To improve your employability, youll develop knowledge and abilities to provide holistic care. Youll gain some of these skills in our Clinical Simulation Centre on campus, or on clinical placements in midwifery and other specialist areas. Currently, if you are a UK student, your Midwifery course fees will be paid by the Welsh Government. Successful completion of this course allows you registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a qualified (registered) midwife.<br><br>Midwives have the opportunity to work in different healthcare settings and gain experience in all aspects of caring for mothers and babies. They can develop their midwifery career in many different ways: as a clinical specialist, a consultant midwife or in management as a head of midwifery services or supervisor of midwives at local authority level. Some midwives prefer to pursue an academic career in education and research. Midwives have developed innovative specialist roles in, for example, ultrasound, fetal medicine, intensive care neonatal units, public health, parenting education and many others. There are also opportunities for midwives to work in the European Union and the rest of the world.
