The primary emphasis of the Bachelor of Music degree is on development of the skills, concepts and sensitivities essential to the life of the professional musician. At the center of the instructional program for this degree are courses in performance (such as applied lessons, masterclasses, and ensembles), musicianship skills and analysis (music theory, aural skills, keyboard skills, and conducting), and history and repertoire. <br><br>The Bachelor of Music degree with concentrations in Music Education prepares students for teaching in the public schools. As part of our program, students receive teaching licenses (Virginia's Collegiate Professional Certificate to teach music in public schools). There are two options for certification: Vocal-Choral or Instrumental. Both options equip students to teach music pre-K through 12th grade. Issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia, the license is reciprocal in 47 states. Our graduates are teaching in schools throughout Virginia, as well as across the country.
