Students successfully completing the Music Education curriculum and all tests required by the West Virginia Department of Education will be qualified for a professional certificate, grades birth through adult, which allows them to teach instrumental, vocal and general music in West Virginia public schools. The curriculum is comprehensive and will prepare you for a variety of teaching settings. Courses include content area, education, pedagogy, methods and General Education Foundations courses, as well as a capstone experience that consists of a two-week preparatory seminar and a 14-week supervised teaching internship in K-12 schools. Graduates teach at the public school elementary and/or secondary levels or attend graduate school for music education.
