The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a versatile degree that offers maximum flexibility for combining. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree often have additional majors in biology, chemistry, history, economics, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, pre-dentistry, global studies, psychology, and many more. With fewer course requirements than the Bachelor of Music degree, this degree is perfect for students wishing to study music at the collegiate level while also pursuing another area of study. The strings area at UNC includes instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, and guitar. Students can major in those instruments or study as a non-major. There are also performance opportunities as a soloist or orchestra member and in chamber music of all kinds. Graduates of the area have gone on to professional careers as solo performers, orchestral musicians, college professors, public school teachers, and private instructors. Others maintain involvement with chamber music and community ensembles while pursuing other careers.
