The Department of Music serves students from a variety of musical backgrounds who are willing to demonstrate their commitment to becoming life-long musicians, challenging them to achieve excellence, and mentoring them toward their goals. To accomplish this, the department offers an extensive music curriculum as well as a rich and diverse calendar of events including concerts, recitals, clinics, and workshops that provide opportunities for performers and audiences while promoting the University's outreach efforts. The Department of Music encourages non-majors who have experience performing in choral and/or instrumental ensembles to participate in the musical life of the University as members of University Chorale, Wind Symphony, University Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Singers, and in chamber music ensembles. Performance is at the heart of music studies and the Department of Music offers a full range of performing opportunities for majors and non-majors.
