The master of music in conducting offers professional training in Western choral, orchestral and wind traditions. Students have the opportunity to conduct award-winning ensembles in the spectacular Gates Concert Hall, gaining valuable hands-on experience. The program covers all aspects of conducting and music direction, as well as extra-musical activities such as managing personnel, working with music libraries, running auditions and recruiting. A combination of individual and seminar training will ensure you're prepared to advance your career upon graduation.<br><br>The master of music in conducting has three emphases: choral, orchestral or wind. In addition to advanced coursework in their area, students will complete electives in musicology/ethnomusicology and music theory.<br><br>Students must also complete these non-coursework requirements:<br><br>One full-length conducting recital<br>Final written and oral exams<br>Graduate-level proficiency in musicology and music theory exams<br>Convocation attendance
