The Bachelor of Music degree with Teacher Certification prepares students to work as instrumental, vocal, guitar, and keyboard educators in public and private school settings. Students also have the potential to participate in other areas of music, such as performing, composing, or maintaining a private studio. Students who complete this program may also pursue graduate degrees in all areas of music. Graduates in the music performance degree develop expertise in the performance of music, music pedagogy, music history, music theory, and entrepreneurship. Most graduates go on to pursue careers performing with professional orchestras, opera companies, choirs, and bands, freelance work, and developing a private teaching studio. Most graduates will go on to pursue a graduate degree in music performance or related field.<br><br>Students will develop the following skills:<br><br>Entrepreneurship: Examples of entrepreneurship in the field of music performance include marketing, creating digital portfolios, and interacting with potential clients on social media. <br>Listening: In the field of music performance, listening is one of the core essential skills. Whether it is listening carefully to a conductor to perform music exactly as instructed or listening across an ensemble to match volume, rhythm, and style, music performance graduates must have excellent listening skills.<br><br>Pedagogy: Music performance graduates are well-trained in pedagogy and often will maintain an active studio of students.<br><br>Social skills: Music performance graduates must posses excellent social skills to be able to attract new audiences, maintain a good rapport with contractors, and to ensure that they work well with others in chamber music and larger music organizations. <br><br>Teamwork: Music performance graduates have to have the ability to work well with others in chamber and large group settings. These situations often have a variety of dynamics requiring graduates to be able to serve as a group leader or be prepared to follow the lead of a section leader on any given performance.
