The Master of Fine Arts degree in Generative Dramaturgy emphasizes the creative, generative nature of the dramaturgical craft and attracts students who see their roles as thought leaders in the field. Faculty members have a strong background in all aspects of theatre event development, ranging from playwriting and classic play dramaturgy to the creation of devised, adapted, and interview-based work. Students will work continually to hone their craft through hands-on dramaturgical experiences both on and off-campus, graduating well-versed in the language, the expression, and the active analysis of new work. The MFA in Generative Dramaturgy normally requires six semesters (three academic years) in residence. A minimum of sixty credit hours must be accrued to fulfill the degree requirements. Admission and retention in the program are based on academic performance and the faculty's evaluation of each student's portfolio, professionalism, skills, and talent. All MFA Generative Dramaturgy candidates are regularly evaluated by the faculty. Successful completion of the first year permits continuation in the program. All MFA Generative Dramaturgy candidates fulfill significant dramaturgical assignments as part of their degree requirements. Students compose a Master's Report in their third year as part of their degree requirements as well as complete a self-designed Thesis Project.
