The Master of Fine Arts in Theatre for Youth is a terminal degree program designed to educate theatre artists for leadership roles within the growing field of theatre with and for youth. Candidates for this program demonstrate a dedication to working with young people through drama-in-education and theatre for young audiences.In this 60-semester-hour degree program, students take classes in Drama-in-Education, Theatre for Youth, Theatre-in-Education, puppetry, and directing. Additional electives ensure the program engage with each student's area of interest. Professional guest artists engage in residencies each year, bringing multiple perspectives to the curriculum.The program is highly competitive, accepting only two students every other year. To gain acceptance into the program, students must first be admitted to the Graduate School at UNCG. Students are required to interview and submit a portfolio that may include promptbooks, production photos, directorial position papers, dramaturgical research, outreach guides, lesson plans, and/or a record of their theatre for youth experience.
