The Master of Arts degree in Theatre offers a course of study including theatre history, dramatic literature, and theory. Designed to cultivate original research and academic writing, this pre-doctoral degree will prepare students for PhD programs in theatre history, theatre theory and criticism, performance studies, and related disciplines. The MA degree in Theatre Studies is a 31 hour pre-doctoral program. MA students must pass a thesis proposal process to qualify for the second year of study. Completion of the degree requires successful defense of a written thesis on a topic of theatre history, dramatic literature, andor theatre theory.
