Sculpture is a three-dimensional art with many mediums — fabric, clay, plastic, glass, wire, metals, wood, marble or other types of stone. Faculty in the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art encourage sculpture students to develop individual directions and to explore contemporary issues through mixed media installations, interdisciplinary projects and public art exhibitions Students focusing on sculpture will learn the human figure through studies in modeled clay, wax and plaster. More permanent media such as cast bronze and carved stone enable students to apply traditional sculpture techniques to contemporary ideas. Classes in blacksmithing, welding and woodworking let students select specific skills to be learned in depth.A B.F.A. in Sculpture paves the way for a variety of creative careers, from individual artist to teacher, curator, gallery owner, designer, fabricator and mold or model makers.
