Glasgow was ranked third in the UK, and first in Scotland, for research strength in English Language and Literature in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) Our staff interests and expertise cover the entire chronological range of study in English Literature, from the Medieval period to the present day, as well as critical theory and creative writing. Beyond their individual projects, our students are fully engaged in the rich intellectual life of our subject area and the School of Critical Studies, organizing reading groups and conferences, participating in colloquia, and, from the second year of study, contributing to undergraduate teaching. A competitive research and travel grant scheme available through the College of Arts will allow you to access archives outside Glasgow and take your work to the world, presenting papers at national and international conferences.
