This degree offers a unique opportunity to study global politics, cultures and societies from the Middle Ages through to the modern day, taught by our internationally renowned experts in African, Asian, North American and European history. In your first year you'll be introduced to the approaches and resources used by global historians, and learn to challenge conventional historical narratives by studying how cross-cultural and global perspectives have shaped human societies and international relations. From your second year you can personalise your degree by choosing from a diverse range of modules. Examine the cultural history of modern Japan through the lens of Japanese cinema, or the transatlantic slave trade from the perspective of African societies. Or explore wider global themes, such as the rise of capitalism, international migration and the history of piracy. You will learn to consider, from a historical perspective, the emergence of modern global societies.
