Start your career by joining one of the UK's longest established tourism-related degrees. Our BA (Hons) Tourism and Events programme has an outstanding reputation in the industry and is recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Institute of Travel and Tourism the UK's professional body - and by the Association for Events Management Education (AEME). On the Tourism and Events programme, we provide an opportunity for you to develop essential practical, people and creative skills in one of the most exciting business sectors. You will be tutored by leading researchers and experienced practitioners in the field who draw on their professional and research relationships with a whole host of regional, national and international operators, attractions and governing bodies to mix real world experience with academic study. Through this, we promote experiential learning via placements, guest speakers from industry, live case studies consultancy work and event organisation projects. You will work directly with industry professionals and potential employers as well as your course tutors. You can also benefit from the Santander Internship Programme that offers paid short-term internship opportunities. Students are encouraged to participate in placements at a variety of organisations, such as: Beaconhouse Events, the Premier Inn, Marriott Hotels (both in the UK and in the USA), Disney and Butler Search Group (who specialise in placing students at premium-level resorts, hotels and private clubs along the east coast of the US). In addition, students can access excellent study abroad opportunities at international universities in Spain, France, and the US. After graduation, our students go on to a wide variety of professional roles in the tourism and events industries around the world. Recent examples include: Business Development Manager at the Institute of Travel and Tourism, Senior Events Manager for Marriot Hotels, Director of Global Sales at an aviation company and Assistant Director of Sales at a Ritz Carlton hotel. Northumbria ranks within the sector as in top 30 for further study, sustained employment or both for Business and Management, 12 months after graduation. (LEO 2020).
