Fredonia's Public Accountancy program puts you on the path to becoming a licensed CPA in New York State. A CPA, or Certified Public Accountant, is a trusted financial advisor who helps individuals, businesses, and other organizations plan and reach their financial goals. CPAs act as consultants on many issues, including taxes and accounting. Becoming a CPA demonstrates your potential as a manager and leader in your organization, and shows commitment to achieve larger roles of responsibility and authority. Fredonia prepares students from differing backgrounds to be successful in for-profit, non-profit, and public agencies and organizations. Fredonia's School of Business has the prestigious AACSB-accreditation demonstrating excellence in instruction and proactive community service. Fredonia prepares you to perform key accounting functions related to business operations, such as financial accounting, auditing, reporting procedures, managerial accounting, and legal, professional standards, and ethical accounting practices. Fredonia offers a very active Accounting Society where students participate in regular speaker events and visit accounting firms. As a result, students develop a network of professionals and alumni willing to help students make successful transitions to professional life. In order to qualify for CPA licensure in New York State, students must complete 150 credit hours of courses, 120 of which are required for the Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
