The field of actuarial science applies mathematical principles and techniques to assess risk in insurance, finance, and other industries and professions. Actuaries hold positions of responsibility with insurance companies, consulting firms, investment banks, government regulatory organizations, and government insurance programs. Progress in the field is based upon completion of examinations given by the Society of Actuaries (SOA). The LIU Post major is designed to prepare students to pass the first three SOA examinations as well as complete the three required Validated by Educational Experience (VEE) courses. Students interested in this highly structured program are urged to contact the Department of Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics as early as possible to aid in formulating an appropriate course of study.
