The finance program gives students a solid understanding of how domestic and global finances work. Students take coursework on financial statement analysis, financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, investments, management of financial institutions, and real estate fundamentals. Students wishing to focus on managing stock portfolios can apply to participate in the highly selective Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), a 2.8 million student-managed stock portfolio class where students will be prepared to become Bloomberg certified. While all real estate courses and most other business courses offered at Texas Tech University can be used to satisfy in part the current education licensing requirements set forth by the Texas Real Estate Commission, they will not completely satisfy all of the current and proposed requirements. Additional courses will be needed that are not currently offered at Texas Tech, although the additional courses are offered via correspondence through Graduate and Professional Programs.
