The M.A. Program aims to provide students with a broad background in mathematics and the opportunity to concentrate on an area of special interest. After receiving their M.A. degree students often go on to teach at a 2-year school, a job in industry or apply to a PhD program in mathematics or a related field. The areas of concentration are Algebra, Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Combinatorics & Optimization, Mathematics Education and Topology. Candidates for admission to the Master of Arts in Mathematics degree program should have an undergraduate mathematics major or have taken for credit an equivalent set of mathematics courses. Students may apply up to 10-credit hours of research towards the degree. The professional presentation for the non-thesis option consists of at least 2-credit hours of research on advanced-level material, culminating in an oral presentation(s) by the student.
