Our Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a variety programs leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. These programs prepare you with diverse career goals, and help you develop unique strengths and talents which are valuable in an increasingly technical society. Youll be well prepared to be innovative and imaginative in complex situations ready for a world of challenges. Youll develops rigorous, logical thinking, problem-solving skills, appreciation of and familiarity with complex structures and algorithms, and the ability to learn technical, detailed or abstract material. Our bachelor's degree allows you to select an emphasis in general mathematical sciences, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, probability and statistics, mathematics education and actuarial science. Successful completion of the emphasis in mathematics education leads to certification to teach at the 6-12 grade levels. NIU is ranked 7th in the nation for producing math teachers.
