The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology provides a broad, comprehensive study of physical activity and human movement. Students observe and studiy movement across the lifespan from mechanical, physiological, psychological, sociocultural, behavioral, instructional and professional points of view. Focused concentration areas provide additional background knowledge and preparation for advanced study or professional careers in allied health and medicine, exercise science, gerokinesiology, physical education, recreation and physical activity promotion, sport studies, and strength and conditioning, older adult fitness and wellness, teaching physical education and athletic coaching.<br><br>The Department of Kinesiology advances the understanding and practice of human movement across the lifespan in the context of a diverse and changing society. The Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Kinesiology offer students a variety of professional areas of study, including Exercise Science, Gerokinesiology, Pre-Allied Heatlh, Recreation and Physical Activity Promotion, Sport Studies, Strength and Conditioning, and Teacher Education. An undergraduate Minor in Kinesiology is also available. The Master of Science in Athletic Training is a full-time professional program that prepares students to become athletic trainers (AT). Degrees in Kinesiology offer advanced study and research opportunities in one or more of the sub-disciplines of Kinesiology: biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control/learning, motor development, sport and exercise psychology, socio-cultural and philosophical aspects of human movement. The intra-disciplinary focus of the department's curriculum fosters the development of diverse values and skills important to a liberal arts education: critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, verbal and written communication, and technological competency.
