High school graduate: If you are currently in high school, we just need to see your 9-11 (or equivalent) grade transcripts for an admission decision. However, you must graduate from an approved high school (or equivalent) prior to starting classes at CMU.
To ensure your success at CMU, you must provide proof of proficiency in English
Submit official transcripts from your high school. If you have college credits, also submit transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended.
TOEFL: 550 PBT/79 IBT for regular admission.
IELTS: 6.5 for regular admission.
General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or General Certificate of Education (GSE): A score of A or B on the English Language Exam.
SAT: Evidence-based Reading and Writing (EBRW) score of 520.
ACT: English score of 21.
ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112 for regular admission.
International Baccalaureate (IB): A grade of 5 in English at the Higher Level is required for regular admission.

A major in sociology with a concentration in youth studies gives you a better understanding of the sociology of adolescence and childhood and prepares you to work with young people in a variety of settings. You’ll examine the impact of gender, ethnicity and social class on youth development. You’ll explore subjects such as family; adolescence; childhood and education; and youth welfare. You’ll get real-world experience through service learning in a local school or agency. And you’ll gain the skills to create effective youth development programs. As a sociology student with a concentration in youth studies, you can: Enroll in courses on childhood, adolescence, education, and the family. Conduct research with faculty members and through class projects. Gain hands-on experience through a capstone service-learning opportunity with a local school or agency. Apply for scholarships designed specifically for students of sociology.
