课程简介
The Long Island University Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program is a collaboration between the University's LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post (Brookville), with courses offered at both locations. Students may complete the M.S.W. at either Long Island University campus. It is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), signifying that it meets the highest standards of academic excellence. The LIU Collaborative MSW program has all the essentials for an exciting academic experience, which will enhance your professional career. The curriculum is carefully constructed to lead to specialized practice in one of five areas: Substance Use and Addictive Behaviors, Child and Family Welfare, Forensic Social Work, Gerontology, and Nonprofit Management. The collaborative program combines the resources of LIU's two main campuses, in Brooklyn and Brookville. The LIU Brooklyn campus is conveniently located in a bustling part of New York City. The LIU Post campus, in Brookville, New York, on the other hand, is situated on a beautiful and sprawling campus, in suburban Long Island. The collaborative program utilizes a coalition of LIU personnel and faculty from both campuses. Field work in varied settings – including schools, homeless shelters, child and family counseling centers, senior citizen facilities, substance abuse clinics and social service agencies- enhances academic learning and allows you to make a positive impact on society.

The Alcohol and Substance Abuse concentration incorporates various methods and systems of practice to prepare students to work with individuals, families, groups and the community at large. This concentration prepares graduates to work in settings ranging from school to community-based organizations and from mental health clinics to the criminal justice system. Graduates of this program will have the knowledge, the skills and the values to deliver alcohol and substance abuse counseling and to perform assessment, clinical evaluation, treatment planning, case management, and client, family and community education. In addition, they will become completely familiar with their professional and ethical responsibilities as well as the documentation process. The Alcohol and Substance Abuse concentration has been designed in conjunction with the New York State Department of Education's requirements for the Certificate in Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC). Students can complete the requirements for CASAC by fulfilling additional clinical hours after completing the M.S.W. degree.
