The Master of Social Work focuses on transformative, culturally competent practice, and this flexible program allows UTSA students to develop masters-level social work skills that translate to a wide variety of social work practice settings.<br>UTSA's MSW is ranked in the top 100 social work programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The program's mission is to serve as a catalyst for transformational, culturally competent social work through research, education and service. Students develop skills in critical thinking, research, problem solving, and oral/written communication, gaining the specialized knowledge needed to make a positive impact in the lives of those who are vulnerable or marginalized. Graduates of the program work in professional positions that serve diverse individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.<br>The 36-hour curriculum is available to students who have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) from a social work program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education and earned within 10 years of applying to the MSW program. Students may enter the program as an advanced standing student, although additional admissions documents will be required. Transfer students from an accredited MSW program are also considered for acceptance into the program. Students in this program must complete 450 clock hours of field practicum. Students may enter the MSW program either full-time or part-time during the fall or spring semesters.
