The Human Services bachelor’s degree program at the University of South Carolina Beaufort is an interdisciplinary program that includes theories, skills and practices for working with individuals, small groups and larger groups in human services settings. Through in-depth coursework, students develop advanced communication skills, become deeply empathetic and explore the multicultural, ethical and legal issues pertinent to care situations. They learn to make a service plan, become skilled in crisis intervention and gain experience facilitating educational and prevention self-help and support groups. The BS in Human Services includes 3 internship courses where students apply theoretical foundations and human service principles in supervised human service settings. Students learn research methods for determining the effectiveness of social programsinterventions (i.e., experimental, quasi-experimental and qualitative designs). Coursework includes leadership principles and the essentials involved in managing information, human resources and fiscal resources in human service agencies.
