The primary objective of public management is to prepare students for careers in the administration of governmental organizations. The curriculum provides the professional competencies that employers demand and the critical analytic skills needed for career advancement. There are two specific objectives for public management. First, public management provides students with the managerial and technical competencies necessary for the effective delivery of public services. Second, public management provides students with the analytic skills to understand the formulation and implementation of public policy in the context of political, social, and economic challenges. To further develop a fundamental knowledge base learned in core classes, public management courses focus on the essential competencies that public managers need to manage government programs. These courses allow students to interact with public management mentors as they learn to apply classroom knowledge and techniques to real life public management situations. In addition, students will choose electives that synchronize with the above courses or to best meet their career goals.
