The Government Department has joined with the Department of History to offer a joint graduate degree for students interested in serving as administrators of public history programs and museums. Students may simultaneously earn both a Master of Public Administration degree, and a Master of Arts in History degree with the Public History specialization. Public History is a discipline where the past is seen, heard, and experienced. The past comes off the printed page and is tangible, it can be experienced and interpreted. The joint degree requires 57 total credits, while students who pursued both degrees separately would need 75 to 82 credits. Students earning the joint degrees must pass a joint oral examination after passing required courses and completing internship credits in both programs. Students interested in the joint degree program should consult with the Director of the Master of Public Administration Program and the Director of the Public History Program.
