This degree or certificate is offered for students interested in preparing for careers in fire prevention and fire fighting. The courses also provide in-service and upgrade instruction for fire fighting personnel. Students will demonstrate the skills required in the field of fire technology. These skills include: fire prevention techniques, behavior of fire, fire-fighting tactics and strategy, and the equipment used in fire protection. Other topics may include: fire investigation, hazardous materials, building construction, and crisis intervention. Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will discuss the skills required for fire prevention techniques; discuss the aspects of fire behavior; discuss the skills required for fire-fighting tactics and strategy; and discuss the skills required for the use of equipment used in fire protection.
