The journalism program prepares students in the writing, reporting, and critical thinking skills required for jobs in the news media or for transfer to a journalism program at a four-year institution. <br><br>Students in journalism will learn to utilize a variety of media and other sources to produce journalistic products that demonstrate:<br><br>good news judgment<br>appropriate sourcing<br>accuracy and completeness<br>technical competence<br>adherence to ethical, legal and style guidelines. <br>Students going through the program will also learn about critical media literacy, as well as analyze how history, economics, politics, the law, and government regulation impact the climate for journalism, freedom of speech and the press in the United States.<br><br>The journalism program will prepare you for work in a variety of occupations and career paths, including:<br><br>Journalist/investigative reporter<br>Broadcaster/news anchor<br>Columnist/speech writer<br>Editor/publisher/author<br>Photo journalist/podcaster<br>Public information officer<br>Public relations/spokesperson<br>Copy editor/script writer<br>Advertising/freelance writer <br>Some career options may require more than two years of college study.
