As a journalism major at UTampa, you'll be inundated with opportunities to tell important stories through print, broadcast and online media. The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree provides students with a wide array of news writing, reporting, editing and multimedia skills, as well as an understanding of journalism history, ethics and legal principles. Located in the 13th largest media market in the country, UTampa provides opportunities for students to compete for prestigious internships at Pulitzer-winning newspapers and nationally admired broadcast outlets. Local websites routinely ask UTampa students to write about Tampa Bay’s exploding arts and culture scene. Additionally, with a range of professional sports teams in the area, it’s not uncommon for UTampa students to cover Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning or Rays games for class assignments. But our hard-working students don’t limit themselves to local media - they also write for national outlets such as USA Today. After graduation, UTampa journalism alumni get hired by top media outlets such as NPR and attend prestigious journalism graduate schools such as the City University of New York. However, in addition to laying the foundation for a career in the news media, the UTampa journalism major also offers students a skill-set and knowledge base that enable them to succeed in law school, the education sector, politics, publishing, PR, advertising and many other areas.
