The mission of the Applied Communication Department at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is to foster the co-construction of better social worlds through positive communication. We believe our curriculum enables students to learn how to practice positive communication in interpersonal, organizational, and public contexts to make a difference. We believe that the coursework and experiential learning in which students in our programs engage allow students to learn to use a positive communication framework to ethically lead by analyzing messages, developing messages, anticipating communication barriers, collaborating with others to accomplish communicative goals, embracing difference, and influencing discourse.Communication graduates generate communication recommendations for self and others. When generating communication recommendations for self and others, communication graduates first assess their own strengths and weaknesses and then recognize potential difficulties that might be faced in implementing the recommendations.
