The Philosophy Department offers several major and minor undergraduate programs, a one-year MA program, and two four-year PhD programs: a PhD in Philosophy and a PhD in Applied Philosophy.Our PhD in Applied Philosophy is a new program that focuses on engaging with and reflecting on real situations and problems. For more information, see our flyer. Philosophers in our department value engagement with scholars in other fields such as the natural and social sciences, history, mathematics, and engineering. We find these interactions generate novel perspectives on philosophical problems and enrich our contributions to philosophical debate.PhD students in Philosophy take courses during their first and second years, do work in two specialized research areas, defend a dissertation proposal, then write the dissertation.
