ESL (English as a Second Language Program) is mandatory for students whose English proficiency level is below the academic requirement in the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum. After the student successfully completes ESL EO, he or she can directly move to the academic English courses. EAP courses (English for Academic Purposes) are supplementary for academic English courses. They are designed to help students improve their English as quickly as possible in grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing.
