The Japanese program offers lower-division preparation for students who plan on transferring to pursue a bachelor's degree in Japanese. Students planning to transfer and/or earn this associate degree may also need to complete additional requirements or electives required by the transfer institution, as many CSUs and UCs have unique admissions and preparation-for-the-major requirements. Students should meet with a MiraCosta College counselor to identify required courses and to develop a written plan for their targeted university. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to communicate in the Japanese language at the Intermediate Mid level of ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) and N4 level of JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test), demonstrate awareness and appreciation of cultural differences of Japanese speaking communities in comparison to their own culture and the dominant culture of the United States.
