Welcome to the Department of Languages and Linguistics at New Mexico State University. Our mission is to guide students in the discovery, learning, and study of language itself. Our hope is that by studying with us, students will be better able to make meaningful contributions to a changing world, not only locally, but also globally. We offer an undergraduate major in foreign languages, with an ''option'' (specialization) in Spanish, French, or German. We also offer supplementary majors in Linguistics, Latin American Studies, and in Chicano Studies. On the graduate level we offer an M.A. in Spanish, which may be completed on campus or entirely online. In addition to our minor programs in French, German, Spanish, and Linguistics, we offer language courses in Japanese, Chinese, and Portuguese.
