Programs of study in the Department of Languages and Linguistics prepare students for a diverse number of professions and provide them with critical skills that compliment many careers in an increasingly interdependent and global marketplace. Students also increase their awareness of the important role language plays in human interaction on individual and global levels.<br><br>Major curriculum plans in each language include balanced groups of courses in language, linguistics, literature and culture. Students may choose to major, double major or minor in French, German or Spanish.<br><br>The Department of Languages and Linguistics offers a Master of Arts in Spanish, which may be completed through our program on the main campus or completely online. Students are asked to indicate an area of interest in either linguistics or literature. The degree requires a total of 36 credit hours. It is recommended that students focus at least 27 credit hours of that total in their selected area of interest. Main campus students may select either a thesis or a non-thesis option. Students selecting to follow the thesis option, may count up to 6 credit hours towards their degree total. Online students are limited to the non-thesis option only at this time
