We offer an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates language study with culture and area studies, literature, and linguistics and prepare students to take their place as participants, leaders and innovators in an increasingly interconnected world. Competency in other languages is the key to understanding other cultures and, in turn, makes possible a deeper understanding of one's own culture and language. German is a concentration option for students at the University of South Alabama pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages. Students can also choose German as a minor. Students in the program take language courses that focus on German Studies, which includes the literature and rich cultural heritage of the almost 100 million speakers of German in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
