All students seeking admission into the Spanish and Portuguese Graduate Program (M.A., Ph.D.) required to take the GRE.
Personal History Statement – This will be required by all students.
Transcripts – Applicants must upload unofficial transcripts for all institutions attended since high school. If an applicant is admitted, official transcripts will be requested only from the institution(s) were a degree was earned and we will direct them to mail it to the Graduate Division office.
If your transcripts are in an language other than English, a official translated copy must be submitted.
3 Letters of Recommendation – Letters must be uploaded digitally, paper LORs will not be accepted.
Official GRE (Graduate Record Examination) Scores:
A minimum seven (7) page sample of work written in Spanish that a) demonstrates original critical prospective, b) develop coherent line of argument, c) demonstrate the ability to organize paper properly, and d) possess appropriate research skill for primary and secondary sources.
There is no exception to this requirement. Oral English proficiency may be demonstrated by achieving a score of at least: 26 on the Speaking component of the TOEFL iBT, 8 on the Speaking component of the Academic Modules of the IELTS.
TOEFL iBT minimum score of 80
IELTS - An overall minimum score of 7.0 for admission, with a score of no less than 6.0 on any individual module.
Hold a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from a recognized academic institution with degree standards equivalent to those of the University of California
Have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0
