In the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL), students develop linguistic, cultural, and literary competencies in modern and classical languages while receiving a multicultural education that prepares them to succeed in our diverse global society. MCLL students cultivate and hone skills that are in demand in today's job market, such as Critical Thinking, Communication, Qualitative Reasoning and Analysis, Social Responsibility, Language Proficiency and Multicultural Competency. We prepare students to formulate compelling and sound arguments with the appropriate research-based evidence. Our department fosters the students understanding of the worldviews, social realities, and cultural/aesthetic creations of the French, Classics, and Spanish-speaking worlds. Our graduates apply these skills to excel in post-graduate education, and numerous professions, including law, hospitality, international affairs, foreign service, social work, education, translating and interpreting, and more.
