When you pursue your Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling at Suffolk University, youll gain core counseling, case conceptualization, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills. Plus, youll train in a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques so you can meet your clients diverse needs. Our program's established reputation with area agencies and institutions means youll be highly sought-after once you graduate. At Suffolk, youll learn to assess, diagnose, and treat clients with a variety of mental health issues. Through our rigorous scientist-practitioner model, youll also learn to incorporate research into everyday practice and apply empirically supported treatment approaches in your work. Our downtown Boston location maximizes your access to networking, internship, and employment opportunities at nearby hospitals and treatment centers, and puts you closer to underserved populations. You'll train to function in a variety of community mental health settings (e.g., clinics, hospitals, prisons, college counseling centers, day treatment programs, rehabilitation facilities, outreach programs, after care centers, etc.). As you systematically complete the curriculum, you'll develop a competency base from which to perform effectively in your area of specialization. Youll also qualify to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts.
