课程简介
The Department of Psychology at Central Michigan University offers a terminal Master's degree (M.A.) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in Industrial and Organizational (IO) Psychology. Students in the Ph.D. program can also choose a Concentration in Occupational Health Psychology (OHP). Industrial and Organizational Psychology is an applied area of psychology that is growing every day. IO Psychology has a dual commitment to the science and practice involved in applying psychology to the practical problems faced by people at work in a variety of organizations. Occupational Health Psychology is also a blend of science and practice, focusing on worker health and well-being. Improving worker productivity and the quality of work-life are the underlying goals of most IO psychologists’ efforts. Such activities include researching better ways for organizations to select and train employees and how to measure employee job performance. Other activities are related to motivational issues at work, factors that affect work group processes, career development, understanding when different types of leadership and mentoring are most appropriate, and psychological factors affecting employee health and well-being. This program is designed for full-time students. It is helpful if students have taken introductory courses in general psychology, IO psychology, social psychology, psychological testing or measurement, research methodology, and statistics. The Ph.D. curriculum in IO Psychology involves approximately four years of intensive academic preparation. The curriculum has been designed to reflect classic and current developments in applied psychology and to provide skills needed in the resolution of organizational problems. Students take courses in foundation areas of psychology. Training in IO Psychology emphasizes theory, research, and practice in personnel psychology and organizational psychology.
