Philosophy of Science is concerned with the foundations, methods, and implications of science. This includes identifying what distinguishes good science from bad, the effectiveness and reliability of scientific theories, and the ultimate purpose of science. This major is designed to provide students with a technical grounding in a scientific or social science discipline of their choosing, and also core knowledge in ethical, analytical, and logical reasoning. <br><br>For additional academic enrichment, complete an undergraduate research course or attend a philosophy-related event: the Department of Philosophy Annual Conference Series and the Intermountain West Student Philosophy Conference are both held annually. Students may also get involved in their department by joining the Philosophy Club or Women in Philosophy. The Philosophy of Science major might be of great interest to students pursuing STEM or social science majors as it is a great way to enhance those majors by implementing skills that will set students apart when applying for jobs, graduate schools, or professional programs. Students interested in the health sciences or professional school may also be interested in this major as it gives a strong foundation in laboratory sciences while discussing societal implications of applied science.
