The Family Science program focuses on the scientific study of the family relationship context of child and adult development. Courses correspond with suggested content areas outlined by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), including internal dynamics of families, interpersonal relationships, human growth and development, families in society, parent education, family resource management, family law and public policy, and family life education. Graduates pursue opportunities in family life education (e.g., parenting education and relationship enrichment), military family support, and child and family service agencies. It provides an excellent foundation for graduate training in family therapy.<br>Reflecting our interdisciplinary roots, Child and Family Science faculty draw from multiple social science disciplines and subdisciplines (e.g., human development, family science, developmental psychology, cultural psychology, communications) to arm our students with layered understandings of developmental processes and family relationships.<br><br>Our responsive Child Development and Family Science programs aim to simultaneously support students' professional and personal goals. Dedicated and award-winning CFS faculty engage and challenge students inside and outside the classroom. Through rigorous coursework, experiential and service learning, internships, research, and practica, students apply classroom learning to help children and families thrive. Research activities and involvement in community settings allow students to practice and refine their knowledge and skills under the mentorship of faculty experts and field professionals.
