An official transcript from each college or university previously attended. Statement of Purpose (= Statement of Intent). Your Statement of Purpose an important part of the application package because it contains information that may not necessarily be well represented by the other application materials, and helps us to determine if your professional interests can be served by our curriculum and our faculty. Your Statement of Purpose should describe (a) why you want to go to graduate school, (b) why you wish to pursue graduate studies at ECU, (c) your research interests, and (d) the experiences and training you have acquired that will help you to successfully pursue your graduate degree. Official GRE scores of the General Test (ECU's GRE code is 5180). A subject test (e.g. Biology, Chemistry) is not required. TOEFL or IELTS scores if you are a foreign applicant and have received your baccalaureate degree from a university outside the USA where English is not the official language. We prefer TOEFL scores of at least 100 (no less than 20 per section) for the IBT exam, 550 for the paper-based exam, or 213 for the computer-based exam. The minimum IELTS score is 6.5.

课程简介
Participants in this interdisciplinary program consist of the Departments of Biology and Chemistry of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, and the Brody School of Medicine. Students participate in a common core curriculum and subsequently pursue a concentration in their chosen field of study. Each IDPBS student is formally affiliated with one of the three units, and their research is centered in Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry.<br><br>The concentration in Biomedical Science combines the former Experimental Pathology program with other research programs and clinical departments of the Brody School of Medicine. The Biomedical Science concentration has research opportunities in cancer biology, cell physiology, immunology, reproductive endocrinology, muscle biochemistry, and the biology of bacterial and viral pathogens.<br><br>Biology's concentration has Experimental Biology as its primary focus. This concentration is designed to provide interdisciplinary doctoral training in molecular genetics, cell and developmental biology, biochemistry, ecology, physiology, systematics and evolution. Students in this program will receive broad exposure to topics that range across all the life sciences disciplines.<br><br>Chemistry's concentration is designed to provide doctoral education at the interface between chemistry and biology. Students in this program will receive broad exposure to topics in chemistry and other biological sciences. The department has expertise in both the experimental and computational methodologies used to investigate synthesis, structure, function, reaction mechanisms and molecular dynamics of biologically important macromolecules.
