The Agricultural Communications Program prepares students for a variety of opportunities in communications with a focus on food, agriculture, energy, and the environment. Students pursuing this major earn credits that constitute a minor in Food and Environmental Systems, which provides the technical subject matter exposure ag communicators need to accurately tell stories about food, agriculture, energy, and the environment. Ag Comm majors choose one of two communication concentrations: Advertising or Journalism. Graduates of the program work as professionals in writing, editing, and publishing, public relations, advertising, radio and television broadcasting, photography, and related professions.The benefit of being in both the College of ACES and the College of Media is that you get support from two colleges, you have the advisers, you have the professors, it just really helps the students receive a well rounded education because they get the technical, agricultural side and they get the skills of journalism or advertising so really it prepares students to be in both industriesThe major in Agricultural Communications is for students wishing to pursue careers as professionals in writing, editing, and publishing, public relations, advertising, radio and television broadcasting, photography, and related activities with an emphasis on the fields of food, agriculture, the environment, energy and consumer behavior. Concentrations in Journalism or Advertising allow students to pursue these professional interests. Program requirements in each concentration include the completion of an interdisciplinary minor in Food and Environmental Systems. The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and the College of Media jointly offer this curriculum.
